Injuries at work are inevitable and unavoidable, as they are not in our control. You may have come across a person who has suffered an injury at work, or you may have become a victim yourself. God forbid, if you or your peers suffer an injury or get involved in an accident, you must be aware of your rights. It is always wise to consult your attorney to get advice on workplace injury.
Aron is a good friend of mine, who used to work for a private construction company. He got seriously injured while performing his services during duty hours. He is a civil engineer by profession and has been taking up private contracts for quite a while now. But in the initial days of his career, he was ambitious about getting hired by a renowned construction company and never thought of working independently. One day, when he was assessing the 12th floor of a government building that was under renovation and reconstruction, due to a sudden jerk on the crane, Aron took a dramatic fall all the way down, but was gladly alive because he fell on raw cement. However, Aron broke his left arm and ruptured his left knee ligaments in the accident. The accident happened due to a malfunction in the crane’s shafts, nonetheless, that is what was meant to happen.
Aron was not actually aware of his rights under such a situation, well, he didn’t even know if such rights even exist. Neither was his employer showing any concerns over his rights. But lucky for him, a co-worker informed him that his employment contract includes a clause stating liability on the company in case of a loss or injury during working hours. Aron was surprised, but later on searched for an attorney who could help him secure his rights, and have the company at least pay for the medical bills.
Aron eventually left the company a couple of months after his recovery, because his attorney had to actually force the company to cover Aron’s rights through the court of law. I met him after he had left the company and inquired about the incidence. Of all the other things that he shared with me, the most important was his attorney’s professionalism in dealing with such cases. He said, “Attorney Joseph Graves knows this business better than anyone I have consulted with” which reflects how satisfied he was with their services.
What’s the bottom line here? Know your rights.
